A pretty ... cockroach?

Several peacocks, including a beautiful white peacock, resided at the resort we were staying at. In fact, it liked to hang out right next to our building, so we could see it from our balcony most of the time. On the second day we were there, I was reading on the balcony and Drew came out and was looking at the pool. He says, "Mom, the cockroach is by the pool." I'm thinking to myself. "A cockroach by the pool, and he can see it from our 4th floor balcony. I'm not sure I want to see that." When I looked over the balcony, I saw the peacock. "Oh, you mean the peacock," I said laughing. Drew says, "Oh yeah, I forgot!"

Dolphin kisses

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing - Photo Books

On Friday, we had an awesome opportunity to interact with dolphins. The kids got to hear the dolphin sing and "conduct." They also got to pet the dolphin, feed it fish and get a kiss.

Scott and I signed up for the dolphin experience and got to take a ride with Due.

Taxi riding

One of the more interesting things for the kids, especially Drew, was not having to ride in carseats. In fact, we were lucky if there were even any seatbelts at all. The first time we rode in a cab, we got one without seatbelts. The next time, the cab had seatbelts, and Drew asked me why I was buckling him when I started to put the seatbelt on him. I said, "Because this cab has seatbelts." Drew says smiling, "Why? Is he a crazzzy driver?" Luckily, the cab driver barely spoke English :)

We took a cruise on a pirate ship one day. I think the most exciting thing for the kids may have been the boys bathroom. I think it may have been for Scott, too, with as many pictures as he took. Scott did say the teeth made him a little nervous when he was relieving himself.

The sinks were pretty cool, too.

Swiming, swimming, swimming and ....

We spent quite a few days just enjoying the pools at the resort. Some days it was hard to get Drew out of the pool. He loved to swim. He didn't even want to get out to eat.

Blake liked swimming, too. But some days he just lounged on the chairs by the pool to relax and read his Magic Tree House books. He also talked to the ladies. I'm not sure what he had in common with this young lady, but he talked to her for almost 20 minutes.

Snakes and monkeys, oh my!

A PHRASE THAT ACTUALLY CAME OUT OF MY MOUTH: "When the man is done putting the big snake on people, he'll let us out of the monkey cage."

Swinging from tree to tree wasn't Blake or Drew's cup of tea, but the animal house at the Canopy Tour place was a big hit.
Blake wasn't scared to put a Burmese Python around his neck. In fact, he didn't want to take it off.

Drew on the other hand was a little more leery as you can see by the look on his face when the snake got a little too close.

Drew preferred the monkeys which sat on his shoulder and head to eat the fruit from the little tubes we were given.

High in the treetops

One of the "high"lights of the trip was a "canopy tour" in the mountains and jungle of Puerto Vallarta. The tour consisted of 14 zip lines (the longest cable was 400 meters long). We signed Blake up because he just met the minimum age, but he took one look at the first zip line and said "no way." Here he is with mom suited up and ready to go. This is about as far as he made it.

Chilling in Mexico

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing - Photo Books

OK. I've been a real slacker lately. So, here's some posts from our recent vacation to Puerto Vallarta. After a long day of traveling on Saturday -- we got up at 5 a.m. to catch our plane to Chicago before making the five-hour trek to Mexico -- we arrived in Puerto Vallarta. Blake and Drew did very well despite being cooped up on a plane for that long.
Here's some pictures of the resort. We spent the rest of the first day at the pool.
